This morning I stopped for an omelet. That was the plan. Nothing spiritual or profound about it. I’m near Shallote NC, staying at a friend’s beach house while I’m helping a Christian brother with a broadcast. I had a drive ahead of me and just wanted breakfast. But God had something else on the schedule.

The young lady waiting on me was twenty years old. As we talked, she mentioned trying to figure out life, searching for where she belonged, and she told me she’d been thinking about going back to church, but had gotten tired of judgmental people. I think a lot of folks know that feeling. Sometimes people who mean well still end up wounding others. But I had the chance to listen, to encourage her simply, and to point her back toward Christ. And right there in a booth over coffee and eggs, I watched her go from ‘maybe someday’ to genuinely excited about taking a step.

Ephesians 2:10 says that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. I love that phrase, ‘prepared beforehand’. We make our plans, and God has already gone ahead. What if that changes the way we see our days? You might not preach a sermon today, but you might encourage a weary heart.

You might not lead a big public ministry, but you might remind someone that Jesus hasn’t forgotten them. So maybe part of our prayer each morning is just, ‘Lord, make me available. Help me notice the people you put in front of me. Give me courage to speak when you open the door.’ And then, go get your omelet and see what God has already prepared.
